Day /1, September 13, 2021, Monday

Check-in to the hotel from 14h00 18h00 meet up at the lobby and short walk through Lisbon’s lowertown Until the Terreiro do Paço, a large square in downtown Lisbon with a wonderful view to the Tagus river, it is oftenly called the Livingroom of Lisbon.

Now let’s look for Beher in Rua da Prata ! This is small gourmetshop /bar that serves tasting dinners of portuguese gourmet products, premium cheese and wine. This Tapas dinner will be matched with some of the best wines from the Lisboa DOC region and Olena and her partner Polina will lead us through this culinary journey by comenting products and wines. After dinner walk back to the hotel which remains in walking distance.

 

 

Day/2 September 14 2021 Tuesday

Today let’s explore the Lisbon Coast, oftenly described as the Portuguese Riviera and Colares. This small village and the área around it is infact a DOC Area belonging to Lisbon . Colares wine is a rare treasure. It is made from Ramisco Grapes which grow on sand soil but not only: those grapes were among the few that survived the phylloxera plague back in the 19th century and they stand against the strong winds of the Atlantic Ocean.

In the morning you will first get to know Sintra the picturesque village and UNESCO World Heritage site you cannot miss. Have a look before we continue on to Colares, where we will pay a visit to Adega de Colares. This impressive winecellar is still active untill today and it produces only Colares Wines which you will have the oportunity to taste.

Now continue on to Casal Santa Maria which is the westernmost vinyard of Europe and has a wonderful Story to tell. Taste Colares Wines as well as the wines from Casal Santa Maria.

It all will come along with a nice Tapas Lunch.

After lunch visit Roca Cape , the westernmost point of the European Continent. On your way back to Lisbon stop at Guincho beach , famous and visited from windsurfers from all over the World .

A further stop is planned in Cascais, formerly a fishing village, today a small cosmopolitan town which is always worth to pay a visit.

Evening at leisure in Lisbon – why not have a visit to Time out marketing, one of the largest in Lisbon that since some years has been transformed to a huge tasting place: the renowned Lisbon chef’s have their booth at the market and you can taste their specialities in mini dishes. Centrally, in the market you can get the best of portuguese wines by the Timeout Winebar.

 

 

Day 3/ September 15th 2021, Wednesday

Today you will visit the Companhia das Lezirias. This is the largest govermental portuguese agriculture and wine estate. Particularely their wines deserve attention. In recent years the brand Tyto Alba was created and the production at the wine estate set inmidst the Tagus estuary Nature Reserve was turned into biological. Vinho da Talha and Orange wines are as well produced here.

It’s September and so you will have the oportunity to participate in a day of wine harvest and stomp the grapes with your bare feet if you like.

Then Enjoy a hearty vinter’s meal with regional grilled porc and other specialities best matched with The Companhias wines.

In the afternoon continue on to Sesimbra. This little fishing town is situated on the other side of the Tagus river on the Setubal Peninsula. It is a charming village by the sea where you will spend the next days. Dinner and rest of the day at leisure.

 

 

Day 4/ September 16 2021, Thursday

Today it will be all around the portuguese Oyster and the best wine that match with this delicacy from the sea. Meet Celia in the middle of here everyday work environment. This woman knows everything about the portuguese Oyster which she happily succeded to recover and is breeding every since the oyster in her farm in the Sado Estuary.

We will reach the farm in minivans which is the only way to go there (no large bus) and then Listen to Celias Explanations translated by Olena.

You will have yourself the oportunity to go and get the Oysters. Working cloth will be prepared for everyone who wants to try. Finally Oysters will be opened and you will have the oportunity to try, together with some portuguese sparkling wine, of course !! After this rich morning you will go back to Setubal where we will Enjoy a delicious lunch with grilled fish and wines from the Setubal DOC Region. The meal to end of course with a small glass of Moscatel as this área is specially known for the production of the sweet moscatel wines.

In the afternoon prepare for yet another Highlight: A visit to José Maria da Fonseca Wine Estate in Azeitão. Jose Maria da Fonseca was the first wine estate to produce table wine and the brand Piriquita still today is to be found on many portuguese tables. Today JMF have properties as well in Douro and in Alentejo. Visit to the family museum which also tells a part or portuguese history and of course of this iconic producer.

Finish the visit with a special tasting of 3 of their moscatel wines and try the delicious Queijo de Azeitão from this área, to match with.

 

 

Day 5 / September 17th 2021, Friday

Alentejo, the endless plains south of Lisbon produce some of the best wines in the country. Today you will get to now 2 of the most remarkable producers of this área: In the morning in Montemor pay a visit to Quinta do Plansel The founder of this wine estate Georg Boehm of german origins was infact the first to understand the treasure of the many indigenous grapes and started to study them. This Wine Estate was the first to plant Touriga Nacional sucessfully in this área of hot climate. Today many of portuguese wine estates buy their plants here. Here you will assist in a small workshop to learn how the plants are grafted in order to ensure the best quality for the vinyards.

Then taste 3 of their wines.

Now continue on to Fita Preta Winery: set very close to Evora the capital of Alentejo this winery is one of its kind.

Antonio Maçanita de wine maker was “crowned” this year as the Winemaker of the year and is work and career is remarkable. Beside of his own company he consults projects throughout the country: From Lisbon Wine Area to Douro where he works together with his sister, to the Açores were he sucessfully recovered indigenous grapes from the Açores and makes fantastic wines from vulcanic soils.

Visit to this impressive winery set in and around a medieval Castle which Antonio and his family are carefully restructuring, this is indeed a life project !

Learn about Antonio’s amazing work , taste the wines and Enjoy a beautiful lunch in the Alentejo Plains.

In the afternoon transfer back to Sesimbra.

Farewell dinner at a nice Restaurant by the sea with some excelente local dishes from the Setubal Peninsula.

Why not try a Sword fish Cataplana or some fish baked in salt. It goes well with some of the iconic wines from this DOC Area.

 

 

Day 6, September 18th 2021, Saturday

Morning at leisure and transfer back to Lisbon
