Day 1
Arrival at Oporto airport, transfer on your own to the hotel and check-in at Hotel Carris, near Ribeira. We suggest a free night to discover the downtown, and maybe have a traditional meal at Dom Tonho Restaurant, a restaurant placed in front of the Douro River. Overnight.
Day 2
After breakfast, you will leave for a train trip to the inlands of the Douro Valley! (transfer on your own) Classified as World Heritage Site by UNESCO, this place has given birth to excellent wines and its community has been working through generations on producing the best flavours and aromas of Port wine.
We will arrive to Pinhão, and from here a transfer will bring you to Casa de Vilarinho de São Romão, a historic manor house where six bedrooms are furnished in an unfussy country style with a judicious use of colour. Check in and prepare yourself for a refreshing walk by the surroundings of this house!
We will pass through the small villages of Vilela and Fermentões, where we can have a snack with the local people. We shall return by 6 o’clock. The suggestion for dinner could only be the amazing Cais da Vila at Vila Real. Overnight.
Day 3
Are you prepared for a sightseeing walk? After breakfast, let’s meet the winelands of Douro with another trekking tour to the vineyards of Pinhão River Valley. We will pass through some more typical villages, meet the people who harvest every year, and also have a pic nic by the time of lunch with overviews to the river!
This adventure will finish at Casa de Vilarinho, finally resting by the fire, and enjoying the typical dishes of Casa de Vilarinhos owner Cristina Van Zeller, with fine local meat and seasonable vegetables.
Day 4
Today we will discover the wonders of Douro in a typical embarkation, the Rabelo boat! After breakfast we will get on board and see the vineyards that have been producing world class wines throughout the years, and enjoy beautiful landscapes all around. Lunch will be at disposal when we arrive in Tua village.
We will return by train in the afternoon to Casa de Vilarinho – breathe the fresh air of the country side, hear a few more stories from this region and enjoy the hotel facilities! By the end of the afternoon we are invited to visit Quinta do Portal, one of the most famous wine producers in Portugal that make wine making their passion. Here we will do a wine tasting of excellent Port wines followed by a nice dinner with regional cuisine. Return to Casa de Vilarinho de São Romão and overnight.
