Bairrada

Bairrada region is located right in the center of Portugal. It is easy to get there from either Porto or Lisbon. Bairrada is perhaps the most important region for the production of premium sparkling wines that have achieved much fame in this region and match perfectly with the ex-libris dish of Bairrada - the suckling pig. The native grape varieties of this region give unique characteristics to their wines, the aromatic Encruzado and Baga, the red wine of red wines so unique to Bairrada. The expression that the well known winemaker Luis Pato has given it has earned some of the wines an international reputation. Coimbra is undoubtedly the city most connected to Bairrada, other treasures to discover are the centennial forest of Bussaco and the Palace of the same name and some author wineries such as Quinta do Encontro or the emblematic Aliança Cellars, a project that unites the sparkling wine to very valuable art collections.
